WOW: United Adding Flights To 10 Exciting New International Cities, Will Resume San Francisco-Tel Aviv Service

United sure knows how to make a splash. The airline announced its largest international expansion in company history today with 10 new cities that will begin service next year, most of which have no current service to the US.

Much of it is made possible by the A321XLR narrowbody, which can serve “long and thin” routes that were previously too far to be served by narrowbodies, but without enough demand for widebody service. New 787s being delivered have also freed up widebodies for additional new service.

The new routes include:

Newark (EWR) – Luxembourg (LUX) starting Apr. 2 with Daily flights on the Airbus A321XLR
Washington, D.C. (IAD) – Toulouse, France (TLS) starting Apr. 26 with Daily flights on the Airbus A321XLR
Newark (EWR) – Ibiza, Spain (IBZ) starting May 31 with 4x Weekly flights on the Airbus A321XLR
Newark (EWR) – Valencia, Spain (VLC) starting Jun. 2 with 3x Weekly flights on the Airbus A321XLR
Newark (EWR) – Marseille, France (MRS) starting Jun. 4 with Daily flights on the Airbus A321XLR
San Francisco (SFO) – Okinawa, Japan (OKA) starting Mar. 27 with 3x Weekly flights on the Boeing 777-200ER
Newark (EWR) – Ljubljana, Slovenia (LJU) starting May 12 with 4x Weekly flights on the 767-400ER
Newark (EWR) – Olbia, Sardinia, Italy (OLB) starting May 27 with 3x Weekly flights on the Boeing 767-300ER
Newark (EWR) – Catania, Sicily, Italy (CTA) starting May 28 with 4x Weekly flights on the Boeing 767-300ER
Newark (EWR) – Terceira, Azores, Portugal (TER) starting Jun. 9 with 3x Weekly flights on the Boeing 737 MAX 8

Denver (DEN) – Paris, France (CDG) starting May 27 with Daily flights on the Boeing 787-9

United announced that it will also continue flying to the new destinations it added in summer 2026 for summer 2027 with flights from Newark/New York to Split, Croatia; Bari, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland; and Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

That’s a whole bunch of new and exciting flights!

The Tel Aviv service resumption is no surprise either, given El Al’s plans to resume service on the route with 3 weekly 787-9 flights starting this fall. Perhaps the only surprise is not starting it sooner, with daily flights, or on a larger plane, but that all makes sense given the current situation and uncertainty in the Middle East.

United serves more destinations in Japan, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France than any other U.S. carrier.

Direct flights to far-flung places like the island of Okinawa are what United does best. I love traveling to Japan, so that’s definitely on my bucket list!

And United now serves 2 airports in the Azores, another beautiful spot on my bucket list.
